Shooting Shirts Are In!

The 10,000 Shooting shirts have arrived! Players can get a shirt when they show me their 'shooting calendars' or documentation. Alternatively, players can also email me their information. The contest goes through the end of October. I think it would be nice to see the shirts worn around RAHS!

The Roseville Boys Backcourt Club (RBBC) is a basketball booster club supporting the RAHS basketball program from 9th grade through Varsity. We work closely with Coach Pierce to provide an economic and an energy boost to his program. RBBC is made up of all of us; please check out the club and see if there is a way of supporting RAHS basketball that fits with your interests and schedule. See you October 7th!

2008-2009 Roseville Backcourt Club Basketball Program News

Parents/Coaches :
Football has barely begun, but with basketball open gyms already in high form, a topic of interest was brought up at the most recent RBBC meeting held in early September. The topic is the Roseville Raider high school basketball program. I have to confess, during a weak moment at the board meeting, I agreed to head up the advertisement sales. As the RBBC tournament director for the Nov. 21-23 youth basketball tournament, I have plenty on my plate. I'm asking for assistance in helping to sell ads. If you receive this e-mail, I hope you can find the time to assist in one way or another. I'd like to suggest a few ways to assist.

1) Contribute to the program with an ad from the company you own or work for OR
2) Sell ads yourself, either to people/businesses you know intimately and regularly frequent or by calling businesses yourself OR
3) Send me contact information of candidates I could solicit ads from myself (please include name(s), phone numbers and any pertinent information), especially those where you might have a "personal" involvement

We have a good start already. Currently, we are still looking for someone to take on the "design and layout" of the program. Mary Maida and Yuri Farmer have accepted this role and Tom Maida is trying to collaborate with a printer he knows who may agree to print for minimal cost to RBBC, if they charge us at all. I will list all the advertisers who contributed in the 2006-07 program, and which ads I currently have a commitment from. We should avoid contacting bars, but places like Champp's, Granite City and Sensor's certainly are acceptable.

Following are the list of advertisers from the 2006-07 program : Baber Auto Repair, Brausen Family Centers, Community Resource Bank, The Countryside, Davanni's, DJ80's, FedEx Kinko's, Hartman Strength & Conditioning, John's Tailors, Robert LaFleur, CPA & Attorney, Leo's Window & Door Repair, LLG Lawn & Landscape, Maverick's, Muscala Chemical Health, North Star Bank, Ruby Tuesday, RYBA, Select Surfaces, Senior Moves, Setzer Pharmacy, Thayer Orthodontics and J.O.Thompson Inc.

If you know someone well who works at these businesses, please try and sell them ads yourself, as that is really the ideal situation. Then please remember to reply to all people on this distribution list you have someone taken care of, or advise me and I will notify all of you. If you wish for me to remove you from this list, contact me and I will revise the list or update it.

Following are businesses I have commitments from for the 2008-09 program : Awards by Hammond, Dave Forsythe Realty, Bob Erdman, Ideal Advertising, Mark Anthony's Hair Salon, Granite City, LZ Truck, Applebee's, Western Bank, Harold's Shoe Repair & Carlson Component Sales.

I am attaching the cover sheet which outlines who we are, what we are charging, etc. If you cannot download this, please e-mail me and I will mail you a copy if needed. We are trying to close out the selling of the ads by 10/31. The ads will most likely be in black or white, and things as basic as a business card can be used for artwork, but leave that up to me and the design person. We will have a week or two for layout/design, and then we'll need at least two weeks for printing.

Sincerely,
Kevin Carlson

This is a free and informative meeting open to all student-athletes, coaches, parents, guidance office personnel and anyone from administration that might want the necessary information if one is thinking about playing Division I or Division II intercollegiate athletics. This event, conducted by the University of Minnesota Compliance Office, helps get students and parents ready for the ClearingHouse process and what they have to do if in grades 10-12.

November 13, 7:00am, Roseville High School
(in the RAHS Auditorium).

RAHS will be hosting a similar meeting as Tartan.

Note from Coach Bartt Pierce - RAHS fall ball plans

For families of boys’ basketball players grades 9-12:

I hope everyone is off to a great start to the school year. Remember to work hard in the classroom as I’d like to repeat as section academic champions! Here is our schedule for the fall. I feel we had a very good summer, and we are going to build on that this fall. Our emphasis is going to be on skill development and weightlifting. Our captains this year are Kenny Farmer and Mike Muscala. I have been working with Mike’s parents to organize a few items. A big thank you to them for their work and help. Mary has set up a blog that will allow you to track our fall schedule at: http://rahsfallball08.blogspot.com/. I will be enlisting the Farmers shortly, but I’ll give them some “time off” to watch Kenny on the gridiron!

We have 23 dates set at the Fairview gym for skill development. The dates and times can be accessed at the above website. Our captains and returning players will be in charge of these sessions with parent volunteers present. I have always had a rule that varsity football players are not allowed to play in fall league games, but they are more than welcome to attend skill development sessions, shoot, ballhandle/dribble, etc…

I am running the RAHS after-school weight room this fall starting next week, 9/8. This will run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3pm to 4:30pm. Cost is $30. You may sign up in the activities office. This is highly recommended!

We are going to play in one varsity league this fall. It will be at Concordia St. Paul. The dates will be as follows: October 19, 26, and November 2, 9. Cost will be $500 and will be divided among the roster. Coach Pierce will be in contact with those who will be playing in this. Our captains, Mike Muscala and Kenny Farmer, will be in charge of coaching these games.

We are not going to be playing in a 9th or 10th grade league. We are purposely focusing on skill development and not playing games. There will be opportunities to scrimmage at the skill development sessions at Fairview.

A few dates: last regular season football game is October 15th. Captains’ practice begins November 10th. Basketball tryouts begin November 24th.

If you have any questions, please email me at bartt.pierce@isd623.org
